The White Hall Ruritan Club is establishing an endowed fund in conjunction with the Ruritan National Foundation that will provide annual scholarships to help one or more White Hall–area students with the cost of their post-secondary education.
WHRC has for a number of years provided scholarships to area students attending college or other post-secondary institutions (such as trade schools). In recent years we have annually offered the Walter F. Perkins Memorial Scholarship in honor of our late former Club president and member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. However, these scholarships have always derived from the general Club budget (sometimes with matching donations from Ruritan National) and could be funded only as our year-to-year status permitted.
In 2008, several WHRC members proposed that we raise money to establish an endowed scholarship fund that would allow us to guarantee annual funding, hopefully at an even more generous level. They suggested we name the fund in honor of Club founding member and lifetime White Hall resident Dan Maupin, whose family has lived in our area for over 250 years. After the proposal was approved by the Ruritan National Foundation, WHRC membership unanimously voted in October 2008 to proceed with the endeavor, and fundraising began.
We met our minimum fundraising goal of $20,000 in April, 2010, enabling the fund to be formally endowed according to our agreement with the RNF.

According to our agreement with the Ruritan National Foundation, WHRC needed to raise a minimum of $20,000 by June 2010 for the fund to be established. The Club pledged to match donations we received from the community to at least $10,000. In April 2010, we reached our goal of raising $20,000, with over $15,000 in donations from WHRC members and supporters from the White Hall community, plus a donation of $5000 from the Club’s cash reserves.
You can help by donating to the Fund and by letting your neighbors know about it. To donate, you may send a check made out to Ruritan National Foundation, with a memo line indicating “Dan Maupin Scholarship Fund”, to
